"In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there us no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves."
We question ourselves, we torment ourselves and we put ourselves in situations where nothing can help us or lead us in the right path. Or more accurately the best path because in the end there is no right or wrong. As many say "Everything happens for a reason" therefore whether you choose the right path or the wrong one eventually you will end up where you belong. Even with that statement there are questioners, why should we live if we are only a fractions of a fraction of a fraction in the endless wonders of life. But making these conclusions put us in places where we guilt ourselves into truly believing and torturing where what is left of us is a war, inside. Here on Earth there is openly nobody here to help us, or more correctly, save us from a war, with no bloodshed, but tears, losses, and depression from not only us, but the people around us. If not one soul on this planet can save us than who can? There are no signs of life, no signs of hope or peace, just obscurity and ambiguity and battles within us. While we still question ourselves and torment, guilt and torture, we understand that no one can save us from ourselves but us. We are the answers to our problems. Although belief is within us we cannot use that to insure our futures because in the end we know that belief is only a pursuit towards happiness and cannot cause it.

There are many things that could cross Cole's mind and evoke emotion to inspire something to carve. Maybe the spirit bear itself, a fire, the sea etc. but something that has crossed my mind is the importance of the tree. The tree carried the sparrows which made him realise the act of forgiveness and took away his anger, or maybe it's because the storm had struck the tree which almost killed him which made him realise the importance of life and savoring that. Perhaps it could be because of the mysterious spirit bear who hid in the shadows and behind trees and who had given him scars not only physically but emotionally as well. There are hidden meanings, metaphors that we would not understand that could portray Cole's life through a tree and that's why I think Cole could and would carve a Tree at the bottom of the Totem Pole.
Cyber Bullying.
Cyber Bullying is a serious thing. The movie that we watched was very touching and emotional but also a reality for some people. I have been through bullying along with cyber bullying but I don't let those things effect me. For some people this effects their life, emotions and how they act. When someone gets caught up in a world they can get lost, and that's how it effects the person. They get lost in the words of someone else, the actions of someone else and the outcome is getting lost. That person gets lost in the world of Cyber Bullying. The worst part is that those aren't real words, they cannot give an outcome that contains justice, it only contains tears, screaming and worst of all, blood. This thing called Cyber Bullying is something that effects one person and one person only, the recipient. Why these people write such things I do not know but, from person experience I can tell you that Cyber Bullying not only hurts the person who received it but hurts them who support that person, who care about that person, and who respect that person. Those words, or letters formed by a keyboard, a mind, and a person who has nothing better to do with their lives can change a perspective, change actions and change the outcome. Causing someone pain isn't something to be proud of. Justice.
Justice is a system that helps one person and punishes the other. But sometimes it doesn't even help a person, it may relieve them of stress, such as if a victim was terrorized by a person and that person has been punished, but has the judge relieved them of the pain that was given during that terrorizing moment? That person didn't heal. That person got relieved. I'm going to be answering question number 2 which states "According to the Keeper, what is the point of the Circle, and why does regular justice often fail?" and I'm going to be saying my opinion and my answer for this question. The Keeper is somebody who believes that people can not only heal physically but mentally, and this is what she portrays through the Circle, she shows that by talking and resolving problems not only can people get justice but they can be relieved of these moments that they have experienced which has effected them mentally as well as physically which was the case with Peter and Cole. The Keeper believes in resolving these problems with respect and responsibility and she shows this belief through the feather. She not only shows Peter and Cole's families but shows the concerned citizens of Minneapolis the seriousness along with non political side of the Circle. My point is that The Keeper believes the Circle an show healing, resolving problems with peace, respect and responsibility towards not only the victim (Peter) but to the perpetrator (Cole) as well. Along with helping those problems, she uses the Circle as an opportunity to inform the citizens of Minneapolis of how conflicts ad problems, even hurting someone can be resolved with a conversation. The Keeper, in my opinion, is the "keeper" of tranquility, as she tries to resolve Cole and Peter's dispute and show people justice can be served by helping both end of a complication. Part 2: Why Does Justice Often Fail? Justice often fails because of the system of punishing one person and leaving the other in almost the same state as they were in before the trial. How? Because they may feel relieved but they haven't "moved on" from the incident that had happened, as the Circle Justice says, they want to help the person heal from the event that happened and they help that person by making the person who had hurt them, help them move on, but Justice, helps one person and punishes the other with jail time, fines, etc. The Justice System can fail because it doesn't acknowledge feeling, and feelings play a big factor in the concept of Justice, unlike in the concept of The Justice System. This System may work one way or another but with cases like Cole's it doesn't depend on facts, proof etc. it factors in feeling and healing and those are not factors in The Justice System, and that's why I think the Justice System often fails because of its forgetfulness in all of the factors that should play a role, which often don't. ~Sukhleen Matharu Topic: Should Greg Mortenson Be Classified As A Hero? Sure, the book does describe him as a hero but they are controversial topics on whether or not he really is the hero they described him as. I'm here to state my opinion, is he or is he not a Hero. Sacrifice. I'm Sure we've all had our own share of sacrifices, but does a sacrifice really qualify you as a hero? In this case the amount of sacrifices made and the impact of his actions have made him a hero. His name has caused tension to arise and has made his achievements fade into disagreements on whether or not he is a hero, but if you heard of a person who sacrificed his house, car, clothes and personal needs to justify the rights of children all through the Pakistan and Afghanistan regions and build schools for the worthy youth of these foreign countries, and say he's not a hero? He may have not built as many schools as he stated but he did build them, he did put in the time, effort and money to do something so unselfish that he is a hero. Sacrifices can be hard but Greg made these sacrifices that caused great impacts toward the children of Afghanistan and Pakistan. These students, girls were given the chance to study and make a living in which they would be proud of. A sacrifice can be life changing and that's when you know that is a single individual can change the lives of so many people, they should be called a hero. Changing lives for the better is an amazing thing but constantly making opportunities for others, for girls who want to become something other than a housewife is truly incredible. Now I might not know every detail of his story but I do know based on his book and my opinions on the book as a believer and supporter of Three Cups Of Tea that in my eyes Greg Mortenson is a hero. Because even before the C.A.I he was an ordinary person like me. He was an ordinary person who took a chance to change lives throughout the Pakistan and Afghanistan regions, so if a normal person can influence others in such a way that changed many lives then that person is not only a hero, but is an inspiration. |
